The Night in Review

The Carolina Hurricanes are an absolute wagon, and they just pushed the Philadelphia Flyers to the brink of a very early summer. Carolina rolled into a hostile road building on Thursday night and delivered a special teams masterclass, suffocating the Flyers in a 4-1 victory to take a commanding 3-0 series lead. Andrei Svechnikov and Jordan Martinook led the charge, leaving Philadelphia searching for answers before it is too late. Looking across the second-round bracket, we are seeing a sharp divide between the heavyweights and the grinders. While Carolina is threatening a sweep in the East, the Colorado Avalanche are similarly bullying Minnesota with a 2-0 series lead out West. Things are much tighter in the Pacific bracket, where Vegas and Anaheim are locked in a 1-1 battle that looks destined to go the distance. Over in the Atlantic, Buffalo just drew first blood against Montreal in a matchup that promises plenty of drama. For Philadelphia, the math is now terrifyingly simple. After battling through a grueling six-game series against Pittsburgh in the opening round, they are suddenly running on fumes against a rested Hurricanes squad. Carolina already swept Ottawa to open their postseason campaign and looks completely unstoppable in every phase of the game right now. In fact, the Hurricanes are now a flawless seven for seven in these playoffs. If they break out the brooms again in Game 4, they will punch their ticket to the Eastern Conference Final without having lost a single game.

The Carolina Hurricanes have pushed Philadelphia to the brink, using a special teams masterclass to secure a 4-1 road victory. CAR leads 3-0 in the series, leaving the Flyers staring down an early summer. Late in the first period, Jordan Staal opened the scoring on the man advantage. Philadelphia found life early in the second when Trevor Zegras beat Frederik Andersen at even strength to tie the game. The defining moment arrived late in the middle frame. With the Flyers on a crucial power play, Jalen Chatfield stunned the home crowd with a backbreaking shorthanded goal at 15:59, assisted by Staal and Jordan Martinook. The Hurricanes never looked back. Early in the third, Andrei Svechnikov converted another power-play opportunity, and Nikolaj Ehlers padded the lead just minutes later. Andersen was rock solid, stopping 18 of 19 shots to quiet the Philadelphia offense. Frustration ultimately boiled over for the home side, culminating in a late ten-minute misconduct for Travis Konecny. Carolina will now bring out the brooms and attempt to complete the sweep in Game 4.
