CAR leads 3-2
Vegas Golden Knights
39-26-17
Carolina Hurricanes
53-22-7
The Carolina Hurricanes are one win away from hockey's ultimate prize. In a pivotal Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final, Andrei Svechnikov delivered a special teams masterclass to push Carolina past the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2. Pavel Dorofeyev struck first for Vegas with an early power-play goal, but Jordan Staal responded midway through the opening frame to settle the nerves in Raleigh. The second period belonged entirely to the home side. Svechnikov gave Carolina its first lead near the twelve-minute mark, and Sebastian Aho doubled the advantage late in the period with a crucial even-strength strike. When Vegas captain Mark Stone took a costly double-minor for high-sticking in the third, Svechnikov made them pay again, burying his second power-play goal off a brilliant feed from Nikolaj Ehlers, who finished the night with three assists. Goaltender Brandon Bussi locked down the Carolina crease, making 23 saves to outduel Carter Hart. CAR leads 3-2 in the series. The Hurricanes now travel to the desert with a chance to hoist the Cup in Game 6.
