The Night in Review

The Carolina Hurricanes wasted zero time reminding everyone why they swept their opening series. Kicking off the second round on Saturday night, Carolina suffocated the Philadelphia Flyers in a dominant 3-0 shutout. Logan Stankoven set the tone just 91 seconds into the game, and the Hurricanes never looked back to take a quick 1-0 series lead. While the Hurricanes and Flyers are already drawing blood in Round 2, the opening round still has one piece of unfinished business. Tampa Bay and Montreal are locked in a bitter 3-3 tie, setting up a massive Game 7 showdown to keep their seasons alive. The Buffalo Sabres are watching that series closely, resting up and waiting to face the winner in the next round. Out in the Western Conference, the first round is officially in the books and the heavyweight matchups are set. The undefeated Colorado Avalanche will clash with the Minnesota Wild, while the Vegas Golden Knights are gearing up to face the Anaheim Ducks. It is a fresh slate for the surviving teams, where the hockey gets heavier and every mistake is magnified. Carolina's flawless transition into the second round sends a terrifying message to the rest of the Eastern Conference. They have now won five straight playoff games without dropping a single contest this spring, looking every bit like an unstoppable juggernaut on a collision course with the Stanley Cup.

The Carolina Hurricanes wasted absolutely no time setting the tone in the second round, suffocating the Philadelphia Flyers 3-0. Just 91 seconds into the first period, Logan Stankoven fired a shot past Dan Vladar to put Carolina ahead. Before the Flyers could even catch their breath, Jackson Blake doubled the lead at 7:30 of the opening frame. Stankoven struck again late in the second period, effectively putting the game out of reach while Frederik Andersen calmly turned aside all 19 shots he faced for the shutout. Frustration boiled over for Philadelphia in the third period. A physical contest featuring 49 Flyers hits descended into chaos midway through the final frame, resulting in a parade to the penalty box and 10-minute misconducts for Trevor Zegras, Jackson Blake, Shayne Gostisbehere, and Nick Seeler. CAR leads 1-0. The Flyers will need to channel that late-game aggression into early offense and find a way to test Andersen when Game 2 drops the puck in Raleigh.
