Sean Durzi did just about everything possible on Friday night to make sure New York walked out of Detroit with two points. Just over five minutes into the opening frame, the defenseman buried a power-play marker off feeds from Gabe Perreault and Will Cuylle to hand the Rangers an early lead they would never surrender. Durzi was not done leaving his mark, either; he dropped the gloves with Detroit forward Marco Kasper midway through the second period during an increasingly physical contest. Behind him, Dylan Garand was flawless between the pipes, turning aside all 22 Red Wings shots to secure the clean sheet. John Gibson kept Detroit in contention all evening with 19 stops of his own, but Eeli Tolvanen finally iced the contest with an even-strength strike with under two minutes remaining. Now sitting atop the Metropolitan at 2-1-0, the Rangers head into the weekend with plenty of defensive swagger to build on.
