Series tied 1-1
Montréal Canadiens
48-24-10
Carolina Hurricanes
53-22-7
A suffocating defensive effort and a clutch overtime winner saved the Carolina Hurricanes from a disastrous hole. Facing the prospect of dropping the first two games of the Conference Finals at home, Carolina came out throwing the body. They racked up a staggering 46 hits to Montreal's 16 and held the Canadiens to just 12 shots all night. Eric Robinson opened the scoring early in the first, but Josh Anderson proved resilient for Montreal, answering midway through the opening frame and again in the third period to force sudden death. Jakub Dobes was busy in the Montreal crease, making 23 saves to keep his team afloat despite the lopsided possession. The tension in Raleigh was palpable in the extra frame. Just three and a half minutes into overtime, Nikolaj Ehlers found the breakthrough, taking a feed from Mark Jankowski and firing it past Dobes for his second goal of the night. The thrilling 3-2 victory leaves the Series tied 1-1 as the matchup shifts north for Game 3 at the Bell Centre.
