COL wins series 4-1
Minnesota Wild
46-24-12
Colorado Avalanche
55-16-11
The Colorado Avalanche are advancing after completing a stunning comeback to eliminate the Minnesota Wild. Facing elimination, the Wild came out desperate in Game 5. They ambushed Mackenzie Blackwood, building a massive 3-0 first-period lead thanks to a goal from Marcus Johansson just 34 seconds in and a pair of tallies from Nick Foligno. Blackwood looked shaky, but Colorado tightened up defensively, allowing Minnesota just 13 shots all night. The Avalanche slowly chipped away. Parker Kelly got them on the board midway through the second period, but time was running out in the third. Then came the late-game magic. Jack Drury scored with under four minutes remaining, and Nathan MacKinnon tied it up at 18:37 to force overtime and shatter Minnesota's hopes. The drama in the extra frame was swift. Just 3:52 into overtime, Brett Kulak played the hero, burying the game-winner off a feed from Martin Necas. COL wins series 4-1 with the thrilling 4-3 victory. The Avalanche now get some well-earned rest while they await their Western Conference Final opponent.
