⚡ The Night in Review

Linus Ullmark is quickly proving to be the transformational piece Ottawa spent years searching for. The Swedish netminder put on a clinic in New Jersey, stifling the Devils in a 4-1 victory that catapulted the Senators to an eye-opening 5-1-0 record. With that statement road win, Ottawa suddenly finds itself perched alone atop a competitive Atlantic Division. That same division saw plenty of turbulence on Monday night as Buffalo took down Florida in a bruising 5-3 battle. Despite enduring 42 hits from the heavy Panthers, the Sabres rode a balanced attack led by Noah Ostlund to spoil Sam Reinhart’s Western New York return. The victory pulled Buffalo back to .500 while leaving Florida searching for answers at 2-2-2. Out west, the Minnesota Wild issued their own loud statement against the Pacific-leading Vegas Golden Knights. An electric five-minute blitz in the opening frame overwhelmed Vegas, paving the way for a 4-2 Minnesota triumph anchored by Jesper Wallstedt. The result pushed the Wild to 4-1-1 and handed the Golden Knights just their second regulation defeat of the young campaign. The biggest takeaway from the night belongs between the pipes in Ottawa, where Ullmark’s brilliance has sparked the franchise’s best six-game start in over a decade. If early form holds, the expected Eastern Conference playoff hierarchy might be in for a serious shakeup before winter even arrives.

Final

Sam Reinhart loves returning to Western New York, but his former club had the final say in a bruising Atlantic Division clash. Florida brought their trademark heavy lumber, racking up 42 hits, yet Buffalo weathered the storm with clinical special-teams execution. Reinhart struck twice on the power play during the second period to cancel out Rasmus Dahlin's earlier blast and Ryan McLeod's go-ahead marker, knotting the game at 3-3 heading into the final frame. That set the stage for Noah Ostlund. Midway through the third period on a Sabres man advantage, Ostlund took a crisp feed from Jack Quinn and beat Jacob Markstrom cleanly for the decisive tally. Tage Thompson added insurance six minutes later, burying a feed off an Owen Power drive to slam the door shut. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen held the fort when Florida pressed late, steering Buffalo back to .500 at 3-3-0 and leapfrogging the Panthers in the standings. If the Sabres keep converting their chances like this, their push for playoff relevance might arrive ahead of schedule.

Linus Ullmark is looking like the transformational piece Ottawa dreamed of, and the Senators suddenly sit perched atop the Atlantic Division. After a scoreless, bruising opening frame headlined by an Anthony Mantha five-minute major for boarding, Ottawa wasted zero time asserting control. Shane Pinto pounced just nine seconds into the second period, beating Nico Daws off a sharp feed from Claude Giroux, before Stephen Halliday buried a power-play marker midway through the frame. Ullmark slammed the door at the other end with 29 saves, frustrating New Jersey until Arseny Gritsyuk finally spoiled the shutout late in the third. Tim Stützle put on a clinic with a goal and an assist, and Tyler Kleven salted things away with an unassisted dagger with just over two minutes remaining. Now 5-1-0 and outhitting opponents while controlling the crease, the Senators look ready to turn early-season swagger into a legitimate stay at the top of the standings.

Final

Minnesota's electric five-minute blitz in the opening frame proved too deep a hole for the Pacific-leading Golden Knights to climb out of, as the Wild claimed a gritty 4-2 victory in a battle of division leaders. Matt Boldy sparked the surge midway through the first period, before Maxim Shabanov buried a Quinn Hughes setup on the man advantage and Danila Yurov capped the three-goal avalanche. Vegas did not roll over. Rasmus Andersson struck early in the second, and William Karlsson made things decidedly tense midway through the third by slicing the deficit to one. Jesper Wallstedt held firm under pressure, turning aside 21 shots while keeping his composure after Rieger Lorenz and Jeremy Lauzon traded blows in a spirited third-period scrap. Joel Eriksson Ek finally sealed it with under two minutes remaining, converting a sweet dish from Kirill Kaprizov. Now 4-1-1 and perched atop the Central, the Wild showed they have both the firepower and the backbone to hang with the West's best.
