Tom Wilson terrorized Pittsburgh once again, orchestrating a bruising performance to power the Capitals to a 5-3 victory over their bitter rivals. Washington set the tone early when Anthony Beauvillier scored just 23 seconds in. Bryan Rust countered less than a minute later, but the Capitals seized control through relentless physicality, out-hitting Pittsburgh 22-7. Wilson reclaimed the lead midway through the opening frame, then dished helpers to Pierre-Luc Dubois and Alex Tuch in the second period to stretch Washington’s advantage to 4-1. Pittsburgh clawed back before the intermission on goals from Tommy Novak and Nick Robertson, trimming the margin to one. But four minutes into the third, Ryan Leonard slammed the door with a lethal power-play strike. Logan Thompson stopped 27 shots to preserve the win, vaulting Washington past Pittsburgh into third place in the Metropolitan Division as their homestand rolls on.
