⚡ The Night in Review

Tim Stützle stole the spotlight on Monday night, silencing TD Garden with two goals in under two minutes to lead the Ottawa Senators to an emphatic 4-1 victory over Boston. It was a genuine statement from Ottawa, who vault to 2-0-0 and claim early pole position in a fiercely contested Atlantic Division. Over in Dallas, the Stars finally awoke from an 0-2 slumber by dismantling the Sharks 5-0. Jake Oettinger collected a pristine shutout while Jamie Benn paced the attack, handing San Jose their first defeat of the season and delivering Dallas a much-needed reset in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Winnipeg Jets stayed unblemished in regulation with a gritty 3-2 comeback triumph in Pittsburgh. Cole Perfetti helped spark a chaotic third period that flipped a goaltenders' duel on its head, keeping Winnipeg neck and neck with the Central Division pace-setters. Rounding out the slate, Tampa Bay rode secondary scoring and Andrei Vasilevskiy to a comfortable 4-1 win over Philadelphia. The result nudged the Lightning into positive territory while leaving the Flyers winless at 0-2-2, already searching for answers at the bottom of the Metropolitan. The biggest revelation remains Ottawa's electric young core, however. Stützle needed just 104 seconds to completely dismantle the Bruins on their own ice, hinting that the Senators' long-awaited leap into the postseason picture might finally be unfolding before our eyes.

Tampa Bay's depth took center stage on Monday night, leaving the winless Flyers still searching for answers in a 4-1 defeat. While Brayden Point opened the scoring late in the first period off a nifty setup from Nikita Kucherov, it was the bottom six that sealed the outcome. Pontus Holmberg struck just 17 seconds into the middle frame, finishing a rush orchestrated by Ilya Mikheyev. Tyson Foerster halved the deficit midway through the second to breathe life into Philadelphia, but Dan Vladar was left far too exposed at the other end. Vladar turned aside 32 shots to keep the Flyers close, even as tempers flared with a spirited bout between Simon Benoit and Jeffrey Viel early in the third. Mikheyev finally delivered the dagger with three minutes left in regulation, burying a feed from Holmberg before Brandon Hagel tacked on a late tally. At 0-2-2, Philadelphia desperately needs to generate more than 14 shots on goal before this early-season skid spirals out of hand.

Tim Stützle turned TD Garden into his personal playground, powering Ottawa to a statement 4-1 victory over Boston. The German superstar struck twice in under two minutes midway through the opening frame, first finishing a shorthanded rush past Jeremy Swayman before adding an unassisted tally moments later. Ottawa never looked back. Drake Batherson buried a setup from Stützle just 66 seconds into the second period, and Michael Amadio padded the cushion four minutes later. James Hagens spoiled the shutout early in the third with an unassisted marker, but the Bruins spent most of the night chasing shadows. Tempers predictably flared with four seconds remaining, resulting in misconducts for Tanner Jeannot, Nikita Zadorov, and Nick Cousins after a fiery scrum. It caps a perfect 2-0-0 start for the Atlantic-leading Senators, who look far more dangerous and dialed in than the bruised Bruins they left behind.

Sometimes all a defensive grind needs is a single spark to turn into total chaos. After forty minutes of cautious, goaltender-dominated hockey that saw Pittsburgh leading on a midway-second-period strike by Ben Kindel, the third period erupted in western Pennsylvania. Alex Iafallo kickstarted Winnipeg’s resurgence early in the third, stripping the puck and burying an unassisted equalizer before setting up captain Adam Lowry less than three minutes later to seize the lead. Pittsburgh defenseman Declan Carlile punched right back to tie it at 2-2, but before the home crowd could even settle back into their seats, Cole Perfetti broke their hearts. Just nine seconds after the equalizer, Perfetti took a feed from Josh Morrissey and snapped the game-winner past Sergei Murashov. Goaltender Clay Stevenson locked it down from there, finishing with 30 saves to preserve Winnipeg's unbeaten regulation streak. Now sitting atop the Central at 2-0-1, the Jets look to carry that clutch finishing into their next road test.

Desperate for their first win of the season, Dallas didn't just beat San Jose; they suffocated them. The Stars smothered the visiting Sharks in a comprehensive 5-0 shutout, limiting San Jose to an almost unbelievable 13 total shots on goal. That gave Jake Oettinger the easiest clean sheet of his life, while his teammates dismantled Yaroslav Askarov at the other end. Miro Heiskanen broke the ice with just over a minute left in the first period, snapping home a feed from Jamie Benn to set the tone. Dallas then blew things wide open during a relentless second frame. Joel Kiviranta tucked home an early rebound, Benn buried one three minutes later off a sweet dish from Jason Robertson, and Robertson himself added an unassisted tally late in the period to make it 4-0. Mikko Rantanen capped the rout late in the third. San Jose threw 30 hits trying to muscle back into the contest, but Dallas utterly controlled the puck. With their first win finally secured, the Stars look like a heavyweight waking up just in time.
