The Carolina Hurricanes are heading to the Stanley Cup Final. Facing a desperate Montreal Canadiens squad fighting off elimination in Game 5, Carolina left absolutely nothing to chance, dominating from puck drop to secure a 6-1 victory. With the blowout win, CAR wins series 4-1 and advances. Midway through the first period, Taylor Hall opened the scoring. Logan Stankoven and Eric Robinson quickly added goals of their own, building a massive 3-0 cushion before the first intermission. Montreal goaltender Jakub Dobes struggled under the relentless pressure, and the Hurricanes kept pushing. Jackson Blake extended the lead early in the second, and Shayne Gostisbehere blasted a power-play goal late in the frame to make it 5-0. Frederik Andersen was a wall at the other end, earning first-star honors with 23 saves on 24 shots. Cole Caufield finally broke the shutout midway through the third on the man advantage, but Seth Jarvis answered late to cap off the rout. The Hurricanes now get a well-deserved rest as they await their Western Conference challenger for the Cup.
