The Night in Review

The Montreal Canadiens are heading to the Eastern Conference Final, breaking hearts in upstate New York with a dramatic 3-2 overtime victory in Game 7. Facing a hostile Monday night crowd, Alex Newhook delivered the clutch heroics, while goaltender Jakub Dobes slammed the door shut to end the Buffalo Sabres' postseason run. With this thrilling series finale now in the books, the bracket for the third round is officially set. Montreal's reward for surviving a grueling seven-game war is a date with the Carolina Hurricanes. Carolina has been resting comfortably after a dominant sweep of Philadelphia, setting up a fascinating rest-versus-rust dynamic for the Eastern Conference Final. Looking across the rest of the playoff landscape, the second round proved to be a mix of quick kills and tight battles. Out West, the Colorado Avalanche made short work of Minnesota in five games, looking every bit like a juggernaut. They will face the Vegas Golden Knights, who dispatched Anaheim in six games to punch their ticket to the Western Conference Final. We are officially down to the final four teams in the quest for the Stanley Cup. With only one series going the distance in the second round, the surviving rosters are battle-tested and ready for the next level of intensity. The stakes have never been higher as we prepare for the puck to drop on the conference finals.

The Montreal Canadiens have punched their ticket to the third round, breaking hearts in upstate New York with a 3-2 overtime victory in a dramatic Game 7. Facing elimination in a hostile environment, Montreal stormed out of the gates. Phillip Danault opened the scoring just four and a half minutes in, and Zachary Bolduc doubled the lead on the power play late in the first period. The top-seeded Sabres refused to go quietly, however. Jordan Greenway sparked the comeback midway through the second, and Rasmus Dahlin found the equalizer early in the third to set the stage for peak hockey tension. Goaltender Jakub Dobes kept the Canadiens alive by stopping 37 of 39 shots, weathering Buffalo's relentless push. The hero moment finally arrived at 11:22 of the extra frame when Alex Newhook buried a feed from Alexandre Carrier to end the Sabres' season. As MTL wins series 4-3, the Canadiens now advance to the Eastern Conference Final, where they will try to keep this magical playoff run alive against their next challenger.
